Taking a little time to care for your leather shoes on a daily basis can go a long way in sustaining their longevity. It is therefore expedient to carry out some form of maintenance regularly, especially for those pairs that cost a fortune. Here are some tips on caring for your leather babies. Read on to learn more!

Shoe soles are typically the first parts of the shoe that start to show signs of wear, the natural tendency is to try to manage them as long as possible; this is a bad idea. When the soles of the shoe are considerably worn out, they can impact the shoe’s structure negatively. It is advisable to get a new sole when it becomes obvious that the original sole is worn out and the cost of a sole replacement is way cheaper than a new pair.

For that dashing look, shoe shining is a must. After conditioning, you can either polish with a shoe cream or wax paste. Always get a polish that matches the exact color of your shoe, and each shoe color should have its own brush. After applying the polish, allow it to sit for a while and then using a brush, shine away.

Applying conditioners at least once a month is a healthy start. In doing this, you first wipe your shoes with a soft material, preferably a nylon cloth dampened with a little water. When the shoes dry up, apply a leather conditioner with the aid of a rag.  Conditioners help leather shoes regain moisture, prevent it from cracking and breaking up. Conditioner should be applied when your shoes look dry.

Every now and again, waterproofing your shoes is a good idea. Just a thin film should do the trick. If your shoes are a little wet, probably from contact with water, rain or sweaty feet, cedar shoe trees do an excellent job of absorbing all the moisture. However, if your shoes are soaked, air-drying them is your best bet, but remember to use your conditioner afterward.
